José Oliva Wins Special Florida Primary

Score one for the cigar rights political movement as José Oliva, president of Oliva Cigar Co., won a special primary election on Tuesday for the chance to fill a vacant seat in the Florida House.
Oliva will now represent the GOP in a June 28 special general election against write-in candidate Antonio Moreno for the right to represent House District 110, which is located in Miami-Dade County, at the Florida House. Oliva is considered a heavy favorite in the election.
According to a Sunshine State News report, Oliva took 42 percent of the vote in the special Republican primary, beating out Frank Lago and Rafael Perez by a respectable margin.
Oliva, who has lived in the district since 1974, is running on a conservative platform, saying he will fight for “lower taxes, small and able government, conservative family values and to make Florida a business-friendly state.”
