My Favorite Cigar

Dirk Benedict • Actor • My Father Cigars
As Lt. Starbuck on the TV series “Battlestar Galactica,” he was a sci-fi superstar of the ’70s. In the 1980s, Dirk Benedict became a pop-culture icon when he portrayed Templeton “Faceman” Peck on the hit action show “The A-Team.” Decades later, even millennials know the theme song, and being inextricably linked to the franchise still gives Benedict a thrill. If you the show, you’ll recall that it was another character who smoked cigars on screen. In reality, Benedict was the true cigar lover. He still is. The 80-year-old Montana native has been smoking cigars for 50 years, and is showing no signs of stopping. So where does Benedict like to light up? According to him, anywhere and everywhere: “Hunting grouse. Fishing trips. Chopping wood. I once ran a 5K race while smoking an Avo No. 3,” he says. “Pissed everybody off, but I finished in the top 10 percent. I wanted to prove a point.” He still likes Avos, and includes La Gloria Cubana and Rocky Patel in his rotation, but he has a particular affinity for My Father Cigars. “I love long road trips in my now old 911, with a couple boxes of My Father cigars and a Thermos of strong black coffee.”
