A Casa Magna With A Mexican Wrapper

The brand that once enjoyed Cigar of the Year Status (in the Robusto size) now comes in a Mexican wrapper. Quesada’s Casa Magna Maduro will launch next month in three sizes. Additionally, Quesada is releasing two limited editions in the Casa Magna Maduro line: a cigar made exclusively for retail of the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA), as well as a subsequent Lancero. They’re all scheduled to ship on the third week of November.
The Casa Magna Maduro is made in the Dominican Republic at the Quesada Cigars factory. Its focus is the dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper, but this is not the same internal blend as the acclaimed Casa Magna Colorado, which is all Nicaraguan. The new cigar also consists of a Nicaraguan binder and a filler blend with tobacco from Nicaragua, the United States (Pennsylvania) and the Dominican Republic.
The core line is offered in a Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 54 ring gauge ($11.50); Toro, at 6 1/2 by 52 ($12); and a box-pressed Belicoso that measures 5 1/2 by 52 ($12).
For the TAA exclusive, Quesada made a box-pressed Toro that measures 6 by 54 and has a suggested retail price of $13 each. Only 300 boxes are being produced. At an even smaller production, the limited-edition Lancero (7 by 40, $13) is also being released with a run of only 100 boxes. All sizes of the Casa Magna Maduro, limited or otherwise, come in boxes of 20.
The cigar was blended by Raquel Quesada, company president, and her father, Manuel “Manolo” Quesada, company founder and patriarch.
“This Casa Magna Maduro cigar is extra special for me because it was a blend that I got to work hand-in-hand with my father and the team this year,” Quesada says.
