A Long, Thin Saint Luis Rey Made Just For Portugal

It isn’t too often that you see the slender Cuban Laguito Especial format used for anything other than the Trinidad Fundadores, but if you find yourself in Portugal you might come across the Saint Luis Rey Adamastor. It’s the country’s newest Regional Edition cigar, and like the iconic Trinidad, measures 7 1/2 inches long by 40 ring gauge—and it even has the pigtail cap.
The name Adamastor is a reference to the mythological character from Luís de Camões’ epic 16th Century poem Os Lusíadas. Adamastor was a personification of the storm clouds, wind and other dangerous forces of nature associated with sailing the seas.
“The connection between the brand and Adamastor reflects the intensity and spirit of perseverance that define this Regional Edition, paying tribute to both Cuba’s cigar-making tradition and Portugal’s epic maritime heritage,” says Empor S.A., Portugal’s official distributor for Habanos S.A.
Adamastor comes in 10-count boxes and retails for 25 euros each (about $27.80). That works out to 250 euros per box, or approximately $278. Only 10,000 boxes are being produced.
