Brick House Goes Light With Double Connecticut
There's a new bargain-priced Brick House on the market, and it's draped in two types of Connecticut leaf. It's called Brick House Double Connecticut, and it s the original Brick House and Brick House Maduro as the third blend in J.C. Newman Cigar Co.'s Brick House brand.
The cigars are known for their affordable price tag (most sizes cost less than $7.00) and strong performance in Cigar Aficionado blind tastings.
"We heard consumer demand for a shade-grown wrapper for the Brick House line," said Bobby Newman, J.C. Newman executive vice president.
The new blend is crafted with a shade-grown wrapper and a broadleaf binder, both grown in the state of Connecticut. Similar to the other two Brick House lines, Double Connecticut contains all-Nicaraguan filler tobacco. The cigar is available in six sizes: Corona Larga, measuring 6 1/4 inches by 46 ring gauge ($5.80); Robusto, at 5 by 54 ($6.00); Short Torpedo, 5 1/2 by 52 ($6.00); Toro, 6 by 52 ($6.30); Churchill, 7 1/4 by 50 ($6.80); and Mighty Mighty, 6 1/4 by 60 ($7.00).
"The result of this combination is a very spicy and peppery rich flavor," Newman said.
Though Brick House Double Connecticut began slowly appearing in cigar shops across the country since last year, J.C. Newman took advantage of this year's IPR trade show to showcase the Connecticut blend.
Brick House Double Connecticut, like all Brick House cigars, is rolled at the PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The original Brick House line launched in 1937. It was retired for decades but resurrected in 2009. Last year, the Brick House Corona Larga earned the No. 17 spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list.
