Meerapfel Cigars Raises 75K For Charity
After a trio of private charity auctions held last week, the Meerapfel family—known for its tobacco-growing operations and high-end cigar brands—raised $75,000 for Latet, an Israeli nonprofit organization that provides aid to those living in poverty and starvation. One auction was held in New York City at the midtown restaurant Valbella At The Park and two more took place in Miami at private residences. A single box of cigars was sold at each event.
Each auction was centered around a box of 25 Meerapfel Création de Coeur cigars, which were created especially for charitable functions. The belicoso-shaped smokes measure 5 1/4 inches by 52 ring gauge and are, unsurprisingly, covered in Cameroon wrapper, as the Meerapfel family is famous in the cigar industry for growing this rare type of West African tobacco. They stepped into the consumer spotlight in 2022 when the Meerapfels created a series of high-end cigar brands aimed specifically at the luxury market.
“It brings joy to our hearts knowing that these cigars will significantly improve the life of thousands of children who are fighting starvation and extreme poverty,” says company vice president Reinhard Pohorec. “We not only believe but are reassured that by sharing our ion, opening our hearts and our resources, we can make a real difference in the lives of others. We are moved by the generosity and warmth of the noble donors.”
