Rocky Patel Ships Emerald

Rocky Patel’s latest creation, Rocky Patel Emerald, shipped out to retailers last week. The cigars are on sale just before Christmas.
Emerald is a three-size line, a box-pressed cigar that Patel says is a little less intense than the others in his vast portfolio. “It’s the first box-pressed cigar we’ve released that’s on the light side of medium,” he says. “Most of our box-pressed cigars are medium to full.”
The cigars are rolled with Ecuador Habano wrappers and two binder leaves (one from Nicaragua, the other from Mexico). While the sales sheet says the cigar has an entirely Nicaraguan filler blend, Patel says there’s a little extra in there. “It’s mostly Nicaraguan filler, with one leaf of Jamastran in it,” he says referring to the Honduran tobacco. “I would describe that cigar as medium, no more than medium.”
The cigars have green-and-white bands, and about half the cigar is wrapped in a bright green piece of paper. They come packed in boxes of 20.
“It’s got a lot of sweetness, it’s truly medium bodied,” says Patel. “I think it’s approachable to the masses.”
The three sizes are Robusto, at 5 1/2 inches long by 50 ring gauge, with a suggested retail price of $11.75; Toro, 6 1/2 by 54, $12.75 and Sixty, 6 by 60, $13.75.
