Room101 Releases Limited-Edition Chief Cool Arrow

Room101 brand owner Matt Booth is certainly living up to his reputation for far-out brand concepts with his latest batch of limited-edition smokes.

Chief Cool Arrow, which began shipping in late-July, is the second installment in the brand's Artist Collection Series. The line pays homage to a space-dwelling Native American Indian who takes revenge upon another one of Booth's imaginative brand creations, the colonizing space explorer Johnny Tobacconaut.

"This is my representation, or interpretation rather, of the reversal of Manifest Destiny, played out on an intergalactic stage," said Booth. "Johnny Tobacconaut goes into someone else's land to take their natural resources. Johnny Tobacconaut then has his helmet torn from his space suit, he is scalped with a fine space blade and his glistening carcass is tossed out into the forever nothingness of space."

Johnny Tobacconaut was the first line in the Artist Collection Series, which had a limited run of 3,500 boxes last year. Booth described the character as an "intergalactic Johnny Tobaccoseed," known for cultivating tobacco in foreign galaxies.

Booth alludes to this intergalactic saga on the black-matte boxes of Chief Cool Arrow, as the character is depicted holding the space helmet of Johnny Tobacconaut beneath his arm as a trophy.

Chief Cool Arrow features a Mexican ligero wrapper and a corojo binder grown in Honduras. The filler consists of ligero tobaccos from Pennsylvania and Estelí along with some Piloto Cubano from the Dominican Republic. The diverse blend is a shift from last year's Tobacconaut, which was mostly Nicaraguan.

These limited-edition cigars come in the same perfecto sizes as Tobacconaut: Fileokee, which measures 4 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge; Ranflajo, 5 1/2 by 50; and Chingonimo, 8 by 60. Fileokee and Chingonimo are limited to 1,000 boxes each, while Ranflajo will have a slightly larger run of 1,500. The cigars retail from $12.50 to $14.50 per stick.

Chief Cool Arrow was produced at the Davidoff facilities in Danlí, Honduras (AgroIndustrias Laepe S.A.), where the majority of Room101 cigars are made. Room101 is distributed by Davidoff of Geneva.
