Cinco Décadas Fundador Pays Tribute to Joya Founders
The year was 1968 when Cuban exiles Juan Francisco Bermejo and Simón Camacho, founders of the Nicaragua Cigar Co., created the Joya de Nicaragua cigar brand. In the following years, the brand prospered commercially and grew into a household name with cigar smokers, and it was even named the official cigar of the White House in 1971.
While Bermejo and Camacho are no longer alive, they haven’t been forgotten. Owner Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca and his son Juan are paying homage to the original owners by adding a new size to celebrate Joya’s 50th anniversary.
The new size is the third in the Cinco Décadas line and it is called Fundador, “founder” in Spanish. The smoke is softly pressed, measures 6 inches by 54 ring gauge and features the same all-Nicaraguan blend as the other two cigars in the line.
Fundador is slated to retail for $20 per cigar and will come packed in boxes of 10. The cigar is expected to begin shipping in July exclusively through Drew Diplomat Retailers. It is being rolled at the Joya de Nicaragua cigar factory in Estelí.
