Cuban Cohiba Ideales Hits Market At Jaw-Dropping Price

A Cohiba was never cheap. As Habanos S.A.’s flagship brand, it was always meant to signal luxury on a global scale. But the retail price on the latest Cohiba will have you delving even deeper into your bank for just a single cigar.
The United Kingdom has received its allotment of the Cohiba Ideales, the 2021 Colección Habanos set that was first announced two years ago. According to Hunters & Frankau, the official Habanos distributor for the U.K., a 20-count box of Cohiba Ideales has a suggested retail price of £8,000 (about $10,215), which works out to £400 ($511) per cigar.
A few other markets around the world have the cigar as well, but don’t expect a discount. At the Beirut Duty Free La Casa del Habano shops in Lebanon, a box retails for $10,000, or $500 per cigar. That’s even more expensive than the Cohiba 55 Aniversario, which has a suggested retail price of more than $300 each. The Cohiba Ideales has immediately become one of the most expensive cigars on the world market.
While the suggested retail price in the U.K. is £400, each Ideales will actually go for much more at the La Casa del Habano in Teddington, one of London’s more affluent suburbs. “We are right now charging £650 per stick,” says Ajay Patel, owner of the Casa. That works out to $827 for one cigar. “We have opened a book up and are selling single sticks to give more people the chance to buy.”
Prices like this used to be reserved for aged and discontinued cigars prices have soared astronomically.
