General Cigar Launching Miami-Made Cohiba
Coming across a Cohiba made in Miami would normally mean that the cigar is a fake. Not any longer. General Cigar Co. is coming out with a new smoke called Cohiba Serie M next week, and it marks the first time that a Cohiba has been (legitimately) made in the United States.
Rolled at El Titán de Bronze in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, the Cohiba Serie M measures 6 inches by 52 ring gauge and is constructed with two binders, a pigtail cap and a closed foot. Its Nicaraguan Corojo cover leaf and Nicaraguan binder envelop a filler blend of Dominican Piloto Cubano and Nicaraguan tobacco from the Jalapa and Estelí regions.
“Unlike in other countries where cigarmakers work in teams, our cigarmakers at El Titán de Bronze personally create each cigar from start to finish, and we put their name on every single box they make,” said Sandy Cobas, owner of El Titan de Bronze, which also produces cigars such as the Herrera Esteli Miami.
Packaged in decorative 10-count boxes, the limited-edition Cohiba Serie M has a suggested retail price of $29.99 and will be available on April 12. Only 5,000 boxes were produced.
Cohiba is one of the cigar world’s best-known brands, and like many cigar brands there is a Cuban and non-Cuban version. It was battled in the courts over the U.S. rights to the brand for more than two decades.
The U.S. is now the fourth country where General produces the Cohiba brand, as there are Cohiba cigars made in the Nicaragua.
