Matilde Cigars Turns to Tabacalera La Isla for Limited Exposure No. 1
Boutique cigarmaker Matilde Cigars has contracted the upstart factory Tabacalera La Isla in the Dominican Republic to produce its new brand. Matilde Limited Exposure No. 1 will make its debut at the PCA trade show in Las Vegas next month.
Offered in one size, the Toro measures 6 inches by 50 ring gauge and is made with all Dominican tobacco, save for the Mexican wrapper. Limited Exposure No. 1 is the first in what brand owner Enrique Seijas hopes will be a series of cigars. The new Tabacalera La Isla is owned by Hostos Fernandez and the factory has been rolling cigars for less than a year.
“I partnered with Hostos Fernandez for this project,” Seijas said. “Hostos and I have a long-standing relationship. He’s a great cigarmaker and easy to work with. Once I heard the news of Tabacalera La Isla, I knew that at some point we would work to create something great together.”
Packaged in 20-count boxes, the Matilde Limited Exposure No. 1 will have a suggested retail price of $10.50 when it ships in September. Although the word “Limited” is in the brand name, Seijas intends this to be a continual production, but in limited amounts. This is the only Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic.
Matilde cigars are distributed by Sutliff Tobacco Co. They were previously Cigar Aficionado’s Hall of Fame.
