My Father Releases First Connecticut Cigar

My Father Releases First Connecticut Cigar

A company known for fairly strong smokes is finally leaning light. My Father Cigars will be releasing its first cigar brand featuring an Ecuadoran Connecticut-seed wrapper at the IPR trade show.

Aptly named My Father Connecticut, the blend showcases a Connecticut-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador, a Corojo '99 binder from Nicaragua and a Nicaraguan filler blend of Habano and Criollo leaf.

With the exception of the wrapper, every leaf of tobacco comes from the Garcia family's farms.

"It truly is the one cigar that was missing in our lineup," said My Father Cigars vice president Janny Garcia to Cigar Aficionado. "It is absolutely a mild cigar but definitely full-flavored. We have been asked to have a Connecticut shade in our portfolio for a long time and we believe this is the right time to do it."

According to My Father, one of the tobaccos in the cigar undergoes a "special fermentation process" for enhanced aroma and flavor. "This leaf is a kind of viso that has an aging/curing process of three years," said Alcides Montenegro, general manager and advertising director for My Father. "This process is done naturally (nothing extra or artificial involved), using the Garcia's own techniques."

My Father Connecticut is slated for four sizes: a 5 1/4 by 52 Robusto, 6 1/2 by 54 Toro, 6 by 60 Toro Gordo and a Corona Gorda at 6 by 48. They'll come in boxes of 23, and retail between $7.30 and $9.40.

This is the company's first use of Ecuadoran Connecticut-seed leaf as a wrapper, which is grown under Le Bijou 1922 being the other. All My Father cigars are rolled at the Garcia's factory, My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.
