My Father Cigars is a company with family in its DNA. It’s run by a father-son-daughter team, and its core My Father brand was named to honor a dad. Now the company is expanding one of its most heralded lines, adding two sizes meant to honor a family member who would have turned 100 this year.

“This year is the 100th anniversary of my grandfather’s birth,” said Jaime Garcia, the son in the My Father team. He was standing in the Doral, Florida, headquarters of My Father Cigars and pointing to a prototype box that would hold two new cigars, commemorative smokes meant to honor what would have been the 100th birthday of his grandfather, José García Alayón.

My Father Le Bijou 1922 100 Años Limited Edition will have two sizes, Corona Extra, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 48 ring gauge, and Corona Especial, at 6 1/2 by 44. The Corona Especial is round, but the Corona Extra has a soft box pressing. Both cigars are topped with pigtail caps.

The tobaccos inside are entirely Nicaraguan—just like the original—but they have been tweaked. “The blend is a little different,” says Garcia. All the tobacco is grown in Nicaragua by his family, namely the Garcia’s San Rafael, Las Quebradas and San José farms. The wrappers on the cigars are exceptionally dark, what the Garcias call “oscuro oscuro,” or “Habano My Father.”

Only 1,922 boxes of each size will be produced, with 22 in each box.

The cigars are ornately presented, with three bands, including a bright orange foot band reading “100 Años.” Prices have yet to be determined, but they are certain to sell for more than traditional Le Bijous. The Garcias hope to have them available at the PCA trade show in July.

The My Father Le Bijou 1922 Torpedo Box Pressed was named Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year for 2015, with a score of 97 points. It was the second time the Garcias have won Cigar of the Year.
