Oliva To Release Year Of The Dragon

For the first time in the company’s history, Oliva Cigar Co. celebrates the Lunar New Year with a seasonal set of Churchills themed to the Chinese zodiac. Offered exclusively through China Duty Free channels, the Oliva Year of the Dragon cigar is expected to hit store shelves next month.
Year of the Dragon cigars are made in Nicaragua by Tabacalera Oliva S.A. with an Ecuador Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. The decorative dragon motifs are found on the boxes and on the footbands of every Churchill-sized smoke in the box.
Although the Lunar New Year officially starts on February 10, the company doesn’t expect the cigars to appear at China Duty Free shops until the middle of next month. Each set will have a suggested retail price of $350, or $35 per cigar. Only 1,500 boxes are being released.
Celebration of the Lunar New Year is becoming a trend in the cigar industry, as more and more companies the party. Cigarmakers such as Davidoff, Plasencia, E.P. Carrillo and Altadis have released annual cigars branded with the year’s Chinese zodiacal animal. Even Habanos S.A. takes part. Last year, the Cuban company honored the Year of the Rabbit with an expensive Cohiba.
