Tatuaje Brings New Sizes To Cojonu And Tuxtla Brands

Tatuaje brand owner Tuxtla series, which puts the spotlight on Mexican wrappers.
Called Cojonu 2018, the new cigar measures 5 5/8 inches by 54 ring gauge and is softly box pressed. It consists of a high-priming Ecuador Habano wrapper with binder and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. Shipping in boxes of 21, the new cigar has a suggested retail price of $13.50 each, before taxes. If you’re wondering about the year 2018, it’s not an age statement or vintage date. That was one of the years Johnson did not release a Cojonu, so he’s making up for the “lost year” with this cigar. Previously, new Cojonus had been on a three-year cycle since they debuted in 2003.
The Tatuaje Tuxtla brand is more of a study in Mexican wrapper, as Johnson introduced the concept last year by taking existing Tatuaje cigars and replacing the wrappers with Mexican cover leaf. The limited-edition line is named after San Andrés Tuxtla, a major city in the Tatuaje 10th Anniversary line: Belle Encre ($12), a 5 3/8 by 48 perfecto, and Bon Chasseur ($12), 5 3/8 by 52. The binder and fillers are Nicaraguan. Shipping in boxes of 20, these Tuxtla cigars will be limited to a production run of 50,000 of each size, or 2,500 boxes.
Both Cojonu 2018 and Tuxtla are made at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.
