Cinco De Mayo festivities extend beyond the borders of Mexico, offering people of all backgrounds and nationalities a chance to celebrate freedom and show appreciation for Mexican and Latino culture. With the holiday coming next month, United Cigars, in conjunction with Nicaraguan producer Rojas Cigars, is releasing a new smoke in iration of the Mexican holiday, called the Rojas Street Tacos Elote Firecracker.

Elote, often referred to as “street corn,” is a popular Mexican dish commonly seen at festivals and fairs, and takes corn on the cob to another level. The corn is typically charred on a grill, smothered in creamy sauce, then topped with chili powder, Cotija cheese, lime juice and varying garnishes such as garlic and cilantro. The new smoke pays homage to this beloved snack and is an addition to Rojas’ Street Tacos Barbacoa blend.

“Street Taco came about from my love for traditional Mexican street food and cigars,” said Noel Rojas, owner of Rojas Cigars. “The Elote Firecracker is a brilliant complement to this blend.”

United Cigars created its Firecracker line in 2007. The name refers to the unique vitola of the cigars, which come short and stout, at 3 1/2 inches long by 50 ring gauge, with a long pigtail cap made to resemble a fuse. United typically collaborates with new manufacturers each year to release a Firecracker blend in celebration of Independence Day. The company has also created Firecrackers for other special projects, such as the newly-released Big Papi Firecracker in honor of baseball legend David Ortiz.

The new smokes were made by Rojas Cigars at the Tabacalera Flor de San Luis factory in Nicaragua with a blend that consists of Nicaraguan binder and filler with an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper. The Rojas’ Street Tacos Barbacoa blend is medium-to-full in strength but these cigars are expected to pack an extra kick of spice due to the compact size of the Firecrackers.

The Elote Firecrackers will come in boxes of 16. Only 200 boxes will be released with an expected retail price of $128 per box, or $8 per smoke. The new cigars will be allocated specifically for United Cigars retailers and are expected to ship on April 17.
