Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Gets A Robusto

From a classic vitolas, but was oddly lacking one of the most popular sizes in the world—a robusto. That changed today. Altadis U.S.A. began shipping the new Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Robusto, which measures 5 inches by 54 ring gauge.
The Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua line was released in 2020 to celebrate the brand’s 85th anniversary. It’s a collaboration between cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez, who produces the cigars for Altadis in Nicaragua, and Rafael Nodal, vice president of product capability for Tabacalera USA (Altadis’ parent company).
The project was part of Nodal’s strategy to spark new interest in the company’s stable of heritage brands with bolder, more modern blends. The strategy paid off. Not only does the brand consistently score well within our blind tastings, but the No. 2 size was named the No. 2 cigar for 2021 on Cigar Aficionado’s annual Top 25 list.
Like the rest of the line, the new Robusto is made entirely of Nicaraguan tobaccos grown on A.J. Fernandez’s farms. It comes in 10-count boxes and has a suggested retail price of $16.95 per cigar. This addition brings the line to six regular-production sizes.
