My Favorite Cigar

Darren Clarke • Golf Pro • Cohiba Siglo VI
Darren Clarke has always loved his full measure of “craic.” That would be “fun,” in Irish slang, and it always seems there is a bunch of craic going on around the Northern Irish golfer.
Clarke has made his mark in the world of golf with both his clubs and his personality. The 55-year-old won 21 tournaments during his regular tour career, including the 2011 Open Championship and the 2000 WGC-Anderson Consulting Match Play Championship, where he defeated Tiger Woods. Now a Champions Tour player, he has posted four wins on that circuit, including the 2022 Senior Open Championship.
All along he has enjoyed the good life and in his presence his baritone voice, throaty laugh and engaging personality signal there are good times going on. Fine wine, fine food, fine cars and a big fish on the end of his fly line are essential components of his life’s repertoire. That also includes cigars. He’s got more than he can count and says Cohiba Siglo VI and Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas are his current favorites.
“People know I like cigars. I get handed them while I’m playing,” Clarke once said. No doubt when that happens, there will be a bit of craic involved.
