Plasencia’s Year Of The Dragon Arriving This Month

The packaging room at Plasencia Cigars in Nicaragua right now is brimming with stacks and stacks of decorative red boxes stamped with golden dragons. Like many in the cigar industry, Plasencia is producing a commemorative cigar for the Lunar New Year—feted in 2024 as the Year of the Dragon—and employees at Plasencia seem to be working around the clock filling these decorative boxes with cigars, shrink-wrapping each one with care.
Heading to retailers later this month, the Plasencia Year of the Dragon is the company’s fourth release that celebrates the Chinese New Year. Plasencia started with the onboard ever since.
The Year of the Dragon is a large torpedo measuring 6 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge, and composed entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco grown by the Plasencia family throughout Nicaragua. It’s produced in Nicaragua as well, rolled at the Plasencia Cigars factory in Estelí.
The seasonal smokes come packaged 10 per box and have a suggested retail price of $45 per cigar. Only 3,000 boxes are being produced: half for the United States market and the other half for the rest of the world.
“The dragon is an animal that perfectly represents our family’s drive for excellence,” says Nestor Andrés Plasencia, chief executive officer of the family-owned company. “We look forward to celebrating the Chinese New Year with the public via this special offering.”
