Boveda Acrylic Humidor

Less is more, or so the design philosophy behind Boveda's new Acrylic Humidor seems to suggest. The simple, no frills storage unit ships ready to use, with no seasoning required. For the veteran or novice cigar enthusiast, it means less setup; less hassle over humidity levels; less room for error. Even in of style the humidor is minimalist, as the transparent walls allow the cigars contained within to speak for themselves.
Boveda, based in Minnesota, is best known to cigar lovers for its line of humidification packets. These packets, which range from 62 to 84 percent relative humidity, accurately maintain the air surrounding your cigars with little hassle. Rather than having to refill a humidification unit every couple of months, one can simply throw out the exhaused Boveda pack and replace it with a new one. These packets also work well in sealed plastic bags, and many cigar manufacturers ensure their smokes stay fresh by placing a Boveda pack in each box of cigars they ship to retailers.
The humidor comes with two large Boveda packs that keep the interior of the unit stable at 69 percent relative humidity for up to 12 months. The Boveda packs are unobtrusive and lay comfortably at the bottom of the humidor, with a dividing tray separating the packs from the cigars resting above. Although the humidor does not ship with a hygrometer, we tested the interior with our own device and witnessed the humidity climb and stabilize at the proper level.
Size is both a blessing and a curse for Boveda's diminutive desktop humidor. With an interior measuring just 1 1/2 inches high (above the tray), 7 7/8 inches wide and a depth of 5 1/8 inches, the humidor can house approximately 20 robusto cigars, or 12 Churchill or double corona cigars (laid widthwise). The dimensions of the humidor are perfect for the cigar pro who wants to keep his everyday smokes close at hand (or show off some rarities in his collection), or for the novice or casual smoker who's growing their collection but has less than 20 cigars. The cigar fan looking for larger storage capacity, however, will not find this a practical humidor.
We did encounter a small issue with the lid of the Boveda Acrylic Humidor. While the lid is held in place by powerful magnets in each corner, which ensure a great seal, one of the magnets from the lid would come loose, on occasion, and stick to its attractive opposite when opening the lid. The magnet could easily be returned to its cavity for a snug fit, and the process was only a minor inconvenience.
With a price tag of $69.99, the Boveda Acrylic Humidor is an affordable, low-maintenance solution for keeping a small batch of cigars humidified and highly presentable. Consider the humidor a desirable option for the home, office or as a gift.
