Colibri’s Heritage Cube Series Goes Geometric

The Rubik’s Cube has captured the fascination—and ire—of many curious minds across the world for the past 50 years. Its remarkably simplistic design—a cube made up of smaller, colored cubes—lures would-be problem solvers, only to summarily crush their hopes—at least for some of them. But if you’re tired of trying your hand at the puzzle, perhaps instead you can consider the Heritage Cube series from cigar accessory manufacturer Colibri. Led by its desktop lighter, the series of smoking accessories bears a striking resemblance to the world-renowned Rubik’s Cube.

Heritage Cube series

The Heritage Cube series includes a lighter, cutter, ashtray and a humidor. Each of the products were designed in Quasar line

The Heritage Cube Desk Lighter, unlike its multi-colored inspiration, comes in solid, matte finishes. You have your choice between black, red, charcoal, blue, green and orange. The lighter features a straightforward, dual operation with both a double torch flame and a soft flame. On opposing sides of the cube, the middle tiles serve as your ignition buttons: click one and a torch flame shoots from the top, click the other and you get a soft flame. When you push either button, the center tile of the top side opens like double doors, producing the desired flame. The lighter is meant to be wind resistant, which is expected of any torch, but if you adjust the soft flame high enough you can make fire that’s fairly wind resistant as well.

This is no pocket lighter, but something best suited for a tabletop (it even has non-slip corners on the bottom). It’s not overly heavy, but has the right amount of heft to keep it steady. In proper cubic fashion, the lighter has an equal height, length and width, at roughly 2 and 3/4 inches for each side, or 68.5 millimeters to be exact. The lighter retails for $165.

If your lighter collection can’t afford another addition, but you like the design and could use an upgraded cutter, then you’re wildly in luck. The Heritage Cube Desk Cutter has the exact same design, dimensions, price and available colors as the lighter. It’s a cube that can cut your cigar in several different ways. Available at your disposal will be a V-cut, a straight cut and three different punch cut options. The four sides of the cube each present a different alternative for prepping your smoke. The V and straight cut are positioned on opposing sides, while one of the remaining sides has two, smaller punch cuts with a large punch on the other side. The top functions as a spring-loaded release, whereas the bottom is a “trap door” that can open up and allow you to discard cigar caps. The cutter can service cigars to up a 60 ring gauge.

The ashtray in this series is quite imposing. The lighter can fit almost fully inside the deep ash pocket in the center. The length and width are essentially standard for an ashtray, at just about 6 inches. But its sides stand 3 and 1/2 inches tall, creating a sturdy wall to protect your fallen ash. The ashtray keeps with the geometric aesthetic, but almost as if it were a 3D cube chopped in half. On the top border of the ashtray, there are four cigar rests, one on each side. Like the other accessories in this series, it’s available in black, red, charcoal, blue, green and orange, and it will set you back $165.

To properly round out this series, a humidor needs to be added to the mix. If you can’t get enough of the cubes, your best bet is the Heritage Cube Humidor, which you can probably guess the shape of. It strictly keeps with the rest of the series, available in the typical black, red, charcoal, blue, green and orange finishes. The $395 humidor has capacity for roughly 60 to 80 cigars. It also has natural cedar lining, a digital hygrometer, an adjustable humidification system, two dividers and a removable trey.
