La Aurora And Jacob & Co. Release Watch, Humidor And Cigars

cigars and fine watches go hand-in-hand, so it’s no surprise when these two worlds come together for high-end collaborations. The newest partnership brings together the oldest Dominican cigarmaker, La Aurora, with the luxury jeweler Jacob & Co., for a new La Aurora-branded watch that comes with a humidor and limited-edition smokes.
The collaboration revolves around Jacob & Co.’s Epic X watch collection, a series of timepieces that’s appeared in several prominent partnerships, including one with soccer player Christiano Ronaldo and another with luxury car manufacturer Bugatti. The Epic X La Aurora timepiece is a skeleton watch with exposed inner workings. It features a rose gold 44mm case and ornate embellishments such as the La Aurora name, logo and an image of their classic No. 1 perfecto cigar.
With each purchase of the watch, customers will receive a humidor and 10 La Aurora 120th Anniversary Limited Edition cigars. The smokes were shipped to retailers this past fall, and are part of a larger, regular-production line from La Aurora released last year to celebrate the company’s 120th anniversary. At 6 inches long by 58 ring gauge, the double-tapered perfecto consists entirely of Dominican tobacco: A Habano ’92 wrapper, Olor binder and a combination of Piloto Cubano, Olor and Corojo filler. The perfecto is a tribute to the very first Preferidos from La Aurora in 1903 and comes in hinged, coffin-like tubos meant to replicate the original packaging. These cigars are made in small batches at La Aurora S.A. in the Dominican Republic, with only 2,500, 10-count boxes produced in total for this year.
The watches were limited to a production of just 10 units, seven of which were pre-sold to Guillermo León of La Aurora and his family and friends. The remaining three sets are available at Jacob & Co. brick-and-mortar stores across three destinations—New York City, Miami and Geneva, Switzerland. Each watch carries a suggested retail price of $48,000.
This wouldn’t be the first time a cigar company teams up with a watchmaker. Other cigar and watch collaborations include La Palina and Accutron; released a humidor replete with Cuban cigars and a timepiece from Cuervo y Sobrinos.
